GUITAR AND STRINGED INSTRUMENT REPAIR

Luthier Scott Johnson

The Importance of Chosing the Correct Hardware!

We all know that breaking the headstock of your guitar can break your heart as well.
But this is one the most creative fixes we have ever seen!

Check out the pictures below
to see the photo story of this unusual guitar repair.
You can click on each picture to see a larger version!

Here's how it came to us.
After buying the pickups out of this guitar to use on another project,
our customer was offered the chance to buy the carcass from which the pickups came.

He asked me if I could fix it. I said "Sure!"

It obviously had a giant bolt with two giant washers
holding the headstock together. It had also been glued.
I removed the bolt and re-broke the headstock. Then I cut plugs
from a block of mahogany, and epoxied it back together,
and retouched the finish, front and back.

Ahhhhh, much better!

I installed a new set of period-correct tuning machines,
and  a complete new set of electronics . . .

. . . and did a complete setup.

Ready to enjoy!

Be careful with your headstock!!
