F.A.Q

If you don’t find an answer to your question here, please feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email.

What are your store hours?

Monday – Thursday from 11 am-8 pm
Friday and Saturday from 11 am-5 pm
We are closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

*We are open on Sundays during the holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas noon-5pm*

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, all major credit cards, and PayPal.

Do you have lessons at your store?

We do offer lessons for guitar, bass, and ukulele. At this time lessons are conducted through an online platform until it is safe to resume them in person at our shop. Check our lessons page for more info.

Do you do layaways?

Yes. Our layaways require a 20% down payment, with the balance due within 30 days.

Do you do buy instruments outright or take trades?

We buy, sell, and trade at Pittsburgh Guitars all the time! Sometimes it is a good idea to check in with us to see if we are interested in the item or items that you are selling.

Do you sell instruments on consignment?

Once in a while, we will sell an instrument on consignment depending on the item. Please get in touch with us to confirm if it is something that we would be interested in selling for you.

What is your shipping policy?

We ship all over the continental US, to a confirmed address. If you are paying with a credit card, we will only ship to the address to which the card bills. This practice protects us from fraud, and we do check and obtain authorization for every purchase. Instruments are generally shipped through UPS; accessories usually ship through the post office.  Shipping charges are non-refundable. We do our best to get the item out on the same day if we get the order early enough, but it will usually ship by the next day that UPS picks up and delivers. UPS picks up at our location Monday through Friday.

What is your warranty on new and used gear?

New gear comes with the manufacturer’s warranty. Our used instruments have all gone through our repair shop and are in perfect working condition when they hit the sales floor, unless otherwise noted. If something isn’t right, give us a call. We want you to be happy with your purchase!

What is your return policy?

All shipped instruments are returnable within one day of delivery. You will have 24 hours from the receipt of any shipped instrument to let us know via email or phone that you are shipping it back. Please save the packing materials – the items must be returned in original, as-shipped condition, in the original packaging with no signs of use. Buyer assumes responsibility for all return shipping costs.

If a “free shipping” item is returned, the refund total will be minus the original shipping cost.

Most items purchased in the store are returnable within 24 hours for store credit. Items that can not be returned include harmonicas, kazoos, books, sheet music, software, headphones (if packaging is opened), earplugs (if packaging opened), microphones, earbuds (if packaging is opened).

Do you have gift certificates?

We have gift certificates available for any amount you want. They can be purchased in our store or through our website right here.

Do you do instrument appraisals?

Professional, basic written appraisals on our store letterhead are $50 per instrument. Some appraisals are more involved, for example, a vintage Stratocaster. To get an accurate appraisal some components may need to be checked for originality and accurate dating.

Do you have a repair shop?

We have a full-time guitar tech who does restrings, pro set ups, re-frets, pickup installation, headstock repairs, and he can even (in some cases) fix the guitar you fell down on.

How long will it take to get my guitar repaired?

Our repair tech works in the order that repairs are dropped off. Depending on how busy he is, basic repairs are typically done in a couple of days. Repairs that are more involved, such as headstock repairs, re-frets, or crack repairs may take up to several weeks.

Do you do amp repairs?

Yes. Our shop is the drop-off location for our amp tech, who picks up at the store every Thursday morning.  We require a $65 deposit to cover his bench charge, which is applicable to any repairs that are done.

How long will it take to get my amp repaired?

Our amp tech processes amplifiers in the order that they are received. Amplifier repairs typically take 2-3 weeks depending on what is wrong with it and if all of the parts are in stock.

Do you carry anything other than guitars, like keyboards or percussion instruments?

We have all manner of stringed instruments (guitars, basses, ukuleles, mandolins and banjos) and all of the accessories that go with them. We do not carry keyboards or drums. We do have an assortment of accessories, including drum sticks, heads, and keys, and keyboard stands. We also sell recording interfaces, headphones, microphones and have a large selection of adapters.
