1989 Martin B-40 Acoustic/Electric Bass in Natural Finish, Comes with Original Hard Case and Pro-Setup

Here we have a 1989 Martin B-40 Acoustic/Electric Bass in Natural finish!  1989 was the first year C.F. Martin came out with their Acoustic/Electric Bass line with the B-40 and B-65.  This bass comes stock with an active pickup system without an on-board preamp (some models or later versions came with an on-board preamp).  It features an Spruce AAV top with scalloped bracing, Indian Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck w/ Ebony fingerboard, 23 frets, 34 in. scale length, and Schaller closed-gear tuning machines.  The width at the lower bout measures 16 in., and the body depth is 4.875 in. (4 7/8″).  It also has the original hard case!  This bass is surprisingly loud acoustically, and would be a cool addition to any bass player’s arsenal.

This ’89 Martin B-40 is in very good condition for its age!  It shows some player wear in the form of scratches, scuffs, and dings in the finish; most of which are documented in the photographs.  Finish checking is most prominent on the body top, which is expected for an acoustic this age.  The bridge is nicely intact with the top, as well as the neck heel to the body.  There are a few areas where the binding is beginning to separate from the body, but they are stable (not moving).  There is evidence of a binding repair up by the neck heel / body backside (to the right);  the little gap (or cut) in the binding to the right of the neck heel/body joint indicates previous repair work done to that area (see photo).

The B-40 has been setup by our shop repairman, and ready to go home to it’s next owner!  Please feel free to message us about this 1989 Martin B-40 acoustic bass!
